THE CONFIRMATION PROGRAM

Building the skills for a lifetime of faith

Confirmation is the church tradition where young adults take on the vows made at their baptism for themselves.   Confirmation is open to students in 8th grade and above.  Confirmation begins in the fall and ends in May with a Confirmation service.   Confirmation at the Congregational Church of Batavia will not give one “all the answers” to the questions of faith but will help build skills for a lifetime of faith.  Much of Confirmation is experiential, involving a great deal of conversation and reflection.

  • Group study of faith fundamentals, such as the mission and ministry of Christ, what it means to be a disciple, what it means to be part of the UCC, grace, social justice and more.
  • Confirmation Ceremony in May for 8th grade students who decide to confess their faith in Christ.
  • Aside from attendance on Wednesday nights, other requirements of the program include attending and participating in worship services, and mission work.
  • Goals of the Confirmation program:
  • Receive a basic understanding of Christian beliefs
  • Participation in the life and ministries of the church
  • Form relationships with fellow Christian peers and adults
  • Ultimately guide students to accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior
