Batavia Nursery School

In 1974 preschool education was a rare commodity. One of our church members, then a mother of a preschooler, was unable to find a preschool for her child. Her response was to fill that need in our community by creating a new preschool! Jeannie Fisk began what continues to be a preschool that is sought after by families in the Tri-Cities and beyond. We have had the privilege of educating the children of some of those students that attended in the early days! Most of our families come to us because a trusted friend, family member or neighbor has recommended us.

We are sponsored by the Congregational Church of Batavia and participate in outreach programs along with various church groups. Our children collect food for needy families at Thanksgiving and contribute hats, mittens and gloves to the Giving Tree at Christmas. One of other highlights of our school year is our Christmas Program. Our students gather in the evening and sing for their parents, siblings, and grandparents! We also sing in church for the congregation. We are truly an outreach to the community, as we are open to children of all faiths. When our enrollment includes a child with a different faith tradition, we incorporate that to teach our children about the beliefs of others.

We are an “academic” preschool, focusing on the skills that are necessary for success in Kindergarten. Our program teaches to the whole child, with curriculum that is based on a multi-intelligence approach. Children also enjoy making friends and playtime each day.

We have adjusted our curriculum through the years in response to the changing times. 7 years ago we began offering a Pre-Kindergarten class for those children who just miss the cutoff for Kindergarten or need a growth year. 4 years ago we began offering Enrichment Programming in Alphabet, Math, Science and Food & Fitness. These additional offerings allow our students to explore topics in more depth while in comfortable surroundings.

We always have an “Open Door” policy; that is, all are invited to visit our school during normal school hours. However, we follow the DCFS guidelines (our licensing body) and are locked in during the day. Tours are provided with one of our staff. Please feel free to give us a call or email us with any questions you may have!
