Children of Abraham + A Call to Prayer, Awareness & Action
On Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 3:00 P.M., at the Peg Bond Pavilion near Batavia’s City Hall, members of the Batavia Christian and Islamic communities, together with other Abrahamic faith groups and people of good will, shall gather for a time of prayer, silence, presentations on recent events, and suggestions for action in response to the recent violent acts carried out against Christians and Muslims and Jews in Poway, California; Western Europe; the Holy Land; India; Indonesia; New Zealand, Nigeria, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Sri Lanka, to name but a few of the more recent occurrences. We come together, because the fear and mistrust, the historical misunderstandings and prejudices must be addressed at the local level before there can be real hope of any movement or change at higher levels. We hope to be the “pebble tossed in the pond” that causes the radiating of ripples outward to move others to prayer, awareness and action, in God’s Name.
This gathering will last an hour, after which there will be a time to meet and greet others. Please invite the members of your faith community to attend. No offering will be received. This is an event organized by the Batavia Ministerial Association, which includes the Batavia Islamic Center as a constituent member.
