Six Month Outreach Focus

Neighbors With Special Needs

The Outreach Team focus for the last half of 2009 will be neighbors with
disabilities. We’ll of course continue to invite participation in the relief of
hunger, especially through Feed My Starving Children. And we’ll
continue to support those around us who are homeless, especially at
Mutual Ground, Lazarus House, the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Vets,
and other agencies. And the Riverwoods Christian Center will be
supported in a number of ways, as will Habitat for Humanity.

However, we’ll highlight ways UCC members can lend a hand to family,
friends and neighbors who need a little extra support. People with
disabilities fall into a broad spectrum. Many enjoy full, active lives
including those who are blind and deaf. Others are served by agencies
such at the Center for Independent Living in Aurora and Elgin and other
sites. These folks receive assistance to live on their own.
Others need a safe place to live. One of the agencies we’ll be inviting you
to support is the Association for Individual Development (AID). AID
maintains group homes, including one within blocks of our church.
Other people need more care, such as the residents at Markham, and other
homes in the area.

We look forward to your joining the members of the Outreach Team in this
important ministry.
