Christmas Cookie Day
Illinois Youth Center St. Charles
Saturday December 8, 2018
12 – 3 PM
Once again, volunteers from churches in this area will be going into the Youth Center in St. Charles to celebrate Christmas with the incarcerated young men there. There are two ways you can volunteer to help with this event.
1. Join us as we spend a few hours with the young men singing Christmas carols and sitting down to talk with the young men.
2. Bake cookies for this event. We try to give every young man and staff a dozen assorted cookies. This year that will be around 200 dozen cookies.
Cookies: The types of cookies that are considered acceptable are; Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip, Molasses, Snickerdoodle and Sugar. No peanut butter, fruit, nuts, icing or sprinkles. Bag the cooled cookies in zip-lock freezer bags with one dozen cookies (same kind) in each bag. Freeze all the bags of cookies.
Cookie drop-off is 6-8 PM on December 5 and 6 at Congregational Church of Batavia 21 S Batavia Ave, Batavia, IL 60510. (or anytime you are at church you can label them and place them in the freezer)
Folks Entering IYC: I will need the Name, birthdate and social security number from everyone who wants to go with us into the prison. I need this information by November 26th. This information is used by the state to run a quick background check.
A lot of folks get anxious about giving out that info – especially electronically - so I always give them the option of just calling me or writing it down on paper.
We will expect folks to be at the facility before 11:45 so they can be processed thru security. I will send out facility instructions, directions and reminders as we get closer to the date.
